Professional Etiquette & Privacy Guidelines for NAB Communities
INTRODUCTION

Thank you for being part of our NAB community. The goal of this community platform is to allow various stakeholder groups within the NAB to network with other professionals who have similar roles so they may share ideas, tools, resources, etc. To ensure the best possible experience for all, NAB has established the following professional behavior guidelines to follow while participating within these communities.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important professional etiquette and privacy guidelines set forth below. By joining and using any NAB community, you agree that you have read and will comply with the guidelines set forth below. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action including, but not limited to:

  • temporary or permanent suspension of your NAB member account, inclusive of your NAB communities account.
  • suspension or revocation of the individual (or provider) membership within NAB.
  • temporary or permanent ban from attending NAB sponsored events.

Any community participants who engage in severe misconduct, such as slander or threatening another community member, will be immediately dismissed from participating with NAB and these behaviors will be reported to the appropriate parties. (e.g., employers, state licensing boards/agencies, and/or law enforcement)

Any questions related to the guidelines should be directed to the NAB staff team by emailing us at nab@nabweb.org. Thank you in advance for being a collaborative member of the NAB community so that we may preserve this environment to be one that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

As a member of the NAB communities, it is important to remember the intent of this platform and agree to post discussions/content, responses, and share files that are in alignment with the overall community goals. When participating in NAB communities, the requisite guidelines are in place:

  1. Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to newer community members. Remember that each community has all levels of experience, and everyone should feel comfortable asking any questions (even the most basic ones) they may have.

  2. Respect the main purpose and goals of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals instead of products or services that you provide. If you’ve found a product or service helpful, please share your experience with the group in a respectful way. Any marketing of products or services for the sole intent of sales purposes may result in dismissal from a community.
  3. Use caution when discussing products and services. Information posted on the discussion groups and in the libraries is available for all to see, both positive and negative. Comments can be subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws so always be cautious in what you share.

  4. All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Any community participants who engage in this type of severe misconduct will be immediately dismissed from participating within NAB communities as well as subject to other disciplinary actions. As a reminder, do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or to know was posted by you.

  5. Respect intellectual property. Make sure that you only post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator. It is also important to include if an item is or is not available for reuse when publishing in a collaborative environment. If a resource is something that the NAB community would have interest in reusing, it is advisable to contact the owner of this material to discuss the process to request reuse to include with your library post.

  6. If you are a member within multiple communities, only post your message and/or documents to the most appropriate ones. This helps ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating "noise."

DISCUSSION GROUP ETIQUETTE

As you begin to use the NAB communities’ discussion boards, below are some best practices that you can use to make this networking platform as beneficial to all users as possible.

  1. State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.

  2. Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals, not to the entire list. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link in every message.

  3. Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list,” to the group. Instead, use the web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing email addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new email address. Simply change your settings.

THE LEGAL STUFF

The NAB Communities site is a benefit for both NAB member and volunteers to be used for networking purposes as well as to accomplish volunteer responsibilities.  As such, NAB is not responsible for the opinions and information posted on this site by others. We disclaim all warranties with regard to information posted on this site, whether posted by a representative of NAB or any third-party individual and/or company; this disclaimer includes all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness. In no event shall NAB be held liable for any special, indirect, or consequential damages or any damages whatsoever resulting from loss of use, data, or profits, arising out of or in connection with the use or performance of any information posted within any of the NAB communities.

Community participants should never post any defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials. Also, as outlined in the guidelines above, do not post any copyrighted information or protected material without the explicit permission of the copyright owner. By posting material to the community discussions and/or libraries, the posting individual(s) warrants and represents that he or she owns the copyright with respect to such material or has procured permission from the copyright owner. In addition, the posting individual(s) grant NAB and users of this site the nonexclusive right and license to display, copy, publish, distribute, transmit, print, and use such information or other material.

Messages should not be posted if they encourage or facilitate members to arrive at any agreement that either expressly or impliedly leads to price fixing, a boycott of another's business, or other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade. Messages that encourage or facilitate an agreement about the following subjects are inappropriate: prices, discounts, or terms or conditions of sale; salaries; profits, profit margins, or cost data; market shares, sales territories, or markets; allocation of customers or territories; or selection, rejection, or termination of customers or suppliers.

While NAB does not actively monitor the communities for inappropriate postings and does not on its own undertake editorial control of postings, our members and volunteers are strongly encouraged to file a report with the main office should they see a posting that is in violation of the guidelines set forth above. If such occurs, please email the NAB offices at nab@nabweb.org so we may take all appropriate action.

NAB reserves the right to terminate access to any user who does not abide by these guidelines.
